This was the final project during my last semester at Berkeley for a class that focused on lighting theories in photography. We were given a lot of creative freedom with how we wanted to approach this project. I worked with four other Berkeley students as models during a single day and used one extra light on the side to help capture the colors of the flowers.
Growing up I watched my mom do Ikebana, which is a traditional Japanese style of flower arrangement. I was always fascinated by each of her work(s) and the types of flowers that she used. I knew that when I started photography, I wanted to do a shoot that focused on the variations of flowers and their amazing color combinations. Additionally, I am a big fan of the ancient Chinese game of Mahjong. There are four tiles that represent the seasons and have intricate designs; they are known as “flower tiles.” I decided to combine these two elements for my shoot and I am so happy with how the photos turned out!
